Published: 06 Jun 2026  |  Updated: 06 Jun 2026

The Sri Lankan community, in association with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh, celebrated Vesak 2026, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing Away of Lord Buddha. The event was attended by members of the Sri Lankan community residing in Riyadh and featured religious observances and cultural activities highlighting the significance of Vesak, the most sacred occasion in the Buddhist calendar.

A notable feature of this year’s Vesak celebration was the special Free Medical Camp organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh with the support of Olaya Medical Complex, providing healthcare services to members of the Sri Lankan community in Riyadh. The medical camp offered medical consultations and basic health screenings conducted by qualified healthcare professionals, enabling participants to receive medical advice and assess their general health condition. The initiative was well received by the community and reflected the spirit of compassion, service, and care for the well-being of others, which are among the core values promoted by the teachings of Lord Buddha. More than 1,000 members of the community benefited from the free medical camp.

Representing H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh, Mr. Mohamed Anas, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage and noted that Vesak serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering harmony, mutual understanding, and respect among all communities. He further emphasized that such religious and cultural events play an important role in preserving Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and strengthening the bonds among Sri Lankans living overseas.

Special Vesak Bhakthi Gee were performed by students of the Sri Lankan International School Riyadh, while colourful Vesak lanterns and pandals illuminated the venue, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere. Traditional Dansal refreshments were also served to visitors.

The celebration concluded with prayers and blessings for peace, prosperity, and well-being for the people of Sri Lanka, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the wider global community.
