Passport for Newborn Children
A Sri Lankan passport may be obtained for a child born abroad to Sri Lankan parents. At least one parent must be a Sri Lankan citizen for the child to be eligible.
Required Documents
- Completed Form K-35
- Four identical colour photographs of the child (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white or plain contrasting background, taken within the past three months)
- Sri Lankan birth certificate of the child
- Parental consent letter
- Citizenship registration receipt
- Copies of both parents’ passports (pages 2–5)
- Copies of parents’ current visa endorsement pages
- Citizenship certificates of parents (required if either parent was born outside Sri Lanka)
- Court decisions or death certificates (if applicable)

Processing Time
Processing normally takes 3–4 months from the date of submission. Applicants will be notified by telephone and through the Embassy’s official social media channels upon completion.
