ECONOMYNEXT – A Sri Lanka tourism promotion roadshow was held in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia to increase collaboration between operators, the Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh said, with an Arabic language Snapchat account named “Jannat Dunya” (Paradise on Earth) launched to promote Sri Lanka as a halal-friendly travel destination.
Several destination management companies (DMCs) participated at the event organized by the embassy with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).
“B2B networking between the visiting Sri Lankan DMCs and their Saudi counterparts in the Eastern Province would create greater awareness about Sri Lanka tourism and enhance collaboration,” ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad was quoted as saying in an embassy statement.
The 20 Sri Lankan DMCs promoted the island nation as a premier, year-round destination for family, luxury, and experiential tourism.
They also showcased the many travel offerings including wellness retreats, wildlife safaris, cultural experiences, and halal-friendly travel, the embassy said.
SLTPB Managing Director Sampath Nissanka showcased the variety of travel offerings Sri Lanka provides for Saudi tourists.
Country Manager for Sri Lankan Airlines Thusitha Wickramasinghe reminded participants of the increased frequency of direct flights by SriLankan airlines from 3 to 7 days weekly from Dammam to Colombo.
A networking session between the DMCs had around 100 participants including leading tour operators, travel agents, Saudi social media influencers and media personnel.
Area mangers of key airlines Saudi Air, Emirates, and Gulf Air also participated in the event. (Colombo/Apr29/2025)
