Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia and the Municipality of Riyadh launched a tree planting campaign to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia which falls in the year 2024. The event which was held at Al Darseena Park in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, coincided with the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16) which is being hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh from December 2 to 13, 2024, under the theme “Our Land. Our Future.”
The event was significant as it was held during the week when Saudi Arabia hosting the largest ever environmental protection conference of the United Nations, UNCCD COP 16, in Riyadh. Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad together with the members of Sri Lanka delegation to COP 16, Nilmini Wickramaarachchi, Himali De Costa of the Ministry of Environment of Sri Lanka and Dulanji Herath of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, planted trees in the park. A large number of participants including staff of the Embassy, leaders and members of Sri Lankan community in Riyadh, the Principal and children of the Sri Lanka International School in Riyadh as well as senior officials of Riyadh Municipality participated and planted an array of plants in the park. The participants also engaged in cleaning up of the park.
While extending sincere appreciation to Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh for launching this important initiative, the Director of Volunteer Services of the Riyadh Municipality Ghada binth Abdullah Al-Omran pointed out that such a tree planting initiative which was spearheaded by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh, was the first ever of its kind and thanked the Sri Lankan community in Riyadh for their active participation during the event.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad pointed out that Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh initiated the tree planting campaign to mark the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries which also aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) that targets planting of 10 billion trees under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. He also pointed out that the event added value to the commemoration as it showed solidarity with the largest UN land conference, being hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, that aims at combating land degradation, desertification, and drought. The ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation to the Mayor of Riyadh region Prince Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf for allocating parks for this tree planting initiative and the excellent arrangements made by the Municipality for this purpose.
Senior Director Arif Al Sulami and his team of the Riyadh Municipality has organized this tree planting events in five prominent parks in the Riyadh Region.

රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලය ශ්රී ලංකාව සහ සෞදි අරාබිය අතර රාජ්ය තාන්ත්රික සබඳතාවල 50 වැනි සංවත්සරය නිමිත්තෙන් රුක් රෝපණ ව්යාපාරයක් දියත් කරයි
රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලය, සෞදි අරාබියේ විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්යාංශය සහ රියාද් මහ නගර සභාව සමඟ එක්ව 2024 වර්ෂයේදී ශ්රී ලංකාව සහ සෞදි අරාබිය අතර රාජ්ය තාන්ත්රික සබඳතා පිහිටුවීමේ 50 වැනි සංවත්සරය සැමරීම සඳහා රුක් රෝපණ වැඩසටහනක් දියත් කරන ලදී. පසුගිය 16 වැනිදා සෞදි අරාබියේ රියාද් අගනුවර අල් ඩර්සීනා (Al – Darseena ) උද්යානයේ මෙම උත්සවය පැවැත්විණි. “අපේ දේශය. අපේ අනාගතය.” යන තේමාව යටතේ 2024 දෙසැම්බර් 2 සිට 13 දක්වා රියාද් හිදී සෞදි අරාබිය විසින් සත්කාරකත්වය දරනු ලබන කාන්තාරකරණයට එරෙහිව සටන් කිරීමේ එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සම්මුතියට (COP16) පාර්ශ්වයන්ගේ සමුළුවේ සැසිවාරයට සමගාමිව මෙය පවත්වන ලදී.
සෞදි අරාබිය සත්කාරකත්වය දරන එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ විශාලතම පරිසර ආරක්ෂණ සමුළුව වන UNCCD COP 16 සතිය තුළ මෙම උත්සවය පැවැත්වීම වැදගත් විය. සෞදි අරාබි රාජධානියේ ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති ඕමාර් ලෙබ්බේ අමීර් අජ්වාඩ් සහ COP 16 වෙත ශ්රී ලංකා නියෝජිත කණ්ඩායමේ සාමාජිකයින් වන ශ්රී ලංකා පරිසර අමාත්යාංශයේ නිල්මිණි වික්රමආරච්චි, හිමාලි ද කොස්තා සහ විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්යාංශයේ දුලාංජි හේරත්, තානාපති කාර්යාලයේ කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය, රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලාංකික ප්රජාවේ නායකයින් සහ සාමාජිකයින්, රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා ජාත්යන්තර පාසලේ විදුහල්පතිවරයා සහ ළමුන් මෙන්ම රියාද් මහ නගර සභාවේ ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ නිලධාරීන් ඇතුළු විශාල පිරිසක් සහභාගී වී පැළ පෙළක් උද්යානයේ රෝපණය කළහ. සහභාගී වූවන් උද්යානය පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ කටයුතුවල ද නිරත විය.
රියාද් මහ නගර සභාවේ ස්වේච්ඡා සේවා අධ්යක්ෂ ගඩා බින්ත් අබ්දුල්ලා අල්-ඔම්රාන් විසින් මෙම වැදගත් වැඩසටහන දියත් කිරීම පිළිබඳව රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලයට අවංක ප්රසාදය පළ කරන ලදී. තව ද රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලය විසින් එවැනි රුක් රෝපණ වැඩසටහනක් සඳහා මූලිකත්වයක් ගත් ප්රථම අවස්ථාව මෙය බවද අවධාරණය කරමින් රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලාංකීය ප්රජාවට ඔවුන්ගේ ක්රියාකාරී සහභාගීත්වය වෙනුවෙන් ද ස්තුතිය පුද කළේය
රැස්ව සිටි පිරිස අමතමින් තානාපති අමීර් අජ්වාඩ් පෙන්වා දුන්නේ රියාද් හි ශ්රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලය දෙරට අතර රාජ්ය තාන්ත්රික සබඳතාවලට වසර 50 ක් පිරීම නිමිත්තෙන් රුක් රෝපණ ව්යාපාරය ආරම්භ කළ බවත් එය සෞදි රාජධානි දැක්ම 2030 යටතේ හරිත මුලපිරීම (SGI) ගස් බිලියන 10 ක් සිටුවීමට ඉලක්ක කර ඇති බවත්ය. මෙම සිද්ධිය ඊට අගයක් එකතු කළ බව ද ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය. භූමි හායනය, කාන්තාරීකරණය සහ නියඟයට එරෙහිව සටන් කිරීම අරමුණු කරගත් සෞදි අරාබිය රියාද් හි පවත්වනු ලබන විශාලතම එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ඉඩම් සමුළුවට සහයෝගීතාවය පෙන්නුම් කිරීමක් ලෙස මෙම සමරු උත්සවය හැඳින්විය හැකි බවද පෙන්වා දෙන ලදී. මෙම රුක් රෝපණ වැඩසටහන සඳහා උද්යාන වෙන් කිරීම සහ ඒ සඳහා නගර සභාව විසින් සිදු කර ඇති විශිෂ්ට විධිවිධාන පිළිබඳව තානාපතිවරයා රියාද් ප්රදේශයේ නගරාධිපති ආචාර්ය ෆයිසාල් බින් අබ්දුල්අසීස් බින් අයියාෆ් කුමරුට සිය අවංක ප්රශංසාව පළ කළේය.
රියාද් මහ නගර සභාවේ ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ අධ්යක්ෂ අරිෆ් අල් සුලාමි සහ ඔහුගේ කණ්ඩායම රියාද් කලාපයේ ප්රධාන උද්යාන පහක මෙම රුක් රෝපණ වැඩසටහන් සංවිධානය කර ඇත.

இலங்கைக்கும் சவூதி அரேபியாவுக்கும் இடையிலான இராஜதந்திர உறவுகளின் 50வது ஆண்டு நிறைவை முன்னிட்டு ரியாத்தில் உள்ள இலங்கை தூதரகம் மரம் நடும் விழாவை ஏற்பாடு செய்தது.
2024 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இலங்கைக்கும் சவூதி அரேபியாவுக்கும் இடையிலான இராஜதந்திர உறவுகளை ஸ்தாபித்ததன் 50 வது ஆண்டு நிறைவை நினைவுகூரும் வகையில், சவூதி அரேபியாவின் வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சு மற்றும் ரியாத் நகரசபையுடன் இணைந்து ரியாத்தில் உள்ள இலங்கை தூதரகம் மர நடுகை விழாவை ஏற்பாடு செய்தது. இவ்விழா சவூதி அரேபியாவின் தலைநகர் ரியாத்தில் உள்ள அல் தர்சீனா பூங்காவில் நடைபெற்றது. இது “எங்கள் நிலம், எங்கள் எதிர்காலம்” என்ற கருப்பொருளின் கீழ், 2024 டிசம்பர் 2 முதல் 13 வரை சவூதி அரேபியாவில் நடத்தப்படும் ஐ.நா. பாலைவனமாக்கலை எதிர்த்துப் போராடும் (COP16) மாநாட்டின் முக்கிய அமர்வுகளின் போது நடைபெற்றது.
இவ்விழா சவுதி அரேபியாவின் தலைநகர ரியாத்தில் UNCCD COP 16 ஐ நடத்திய வாரத்தில் நடைபெற்றது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
சவூதி அரேபிய இராச்சியத்திற்கான இலங்கைத் தூதுவர் உமர் லெப்பை அமீர் அஜ்வத் அவர்கள், COP 16க்கான இலங்கை பிரதிநிதி குழுவில் உறுப்பினர்களான நில்மினி விக்கிரமாராச்சி, இலங்கையின் சுற்றாடல் அமைச்சின் ஹிமாலி டி கோஸ்டா மற்றும் வெளிவிவகார, வெளிநாட்டு வேலைவாய்ப்பு மற்றும் சுற்றுலாத்துறை அமைச்சின் துலான்ஜி ஹேரத் ஆகியோருடன் இணைந்து பூங்காவில் மரங்களை நட்டார்கள்.
தூதரக ஊழியர்கள், ரியாத்தில் உள்ள இலங்கை சமூகத்தின் தலைவர்கள், உறுப்பினர்கள், இலங்கை சர்வதேச பாடசாலையின் அதிபர் மற்றும் மாணவர்கள், மற்றும் ரியாத் நகரசபையின் அதிகாரிகள் உட்பட பலர் பங்கேற்றனர். இதில் பெருந்தொகையான செடிகளை நடுதல் நிகழ்வும் அமைந்திருந்தது.
ரியாத்தில் உள்ள இலங்கைத் தூதரகத்தின் இந்த முயற்சிக்கு ரியாத் நகரசபையின் தன்னார்வ சேவைகளின் பணிப்பாளர் காடா பின்த் அப்துல்லா அல்-ஒம்ரான் அவர்கள் பாராட்டுகளைத் தெரிவித்தார்.
தூதுவர் அமீர் அஜ்வத், சவூதி பசுமை முன்முயற்சியின் (SGI) ஒரு பகுதியாக இரு நாடுகளின் 50வது ஆண்டு இராஜதந்திர உறவுகளைக் குறிக்கும் விதமாக இந்த நிகழ்வை சுட்டிக்காட்டினார்.
