Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, O.L. Ameer Ajwad, participated as the Chief Guest at the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations hosted by the Indian community organization DISHA, in association with the Embassy of India in Riyadh and the Saudi Yoga Committee of the Ministry of Sport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
More than 1,300 participants representing diverse nationalities took part in the Common Yoga Protocol, reflecting the universal appeal of yoga and its enduring message of unity, harmony, and well-being.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad highlighted that in todayโs fast-paced world, where stress and anxiety have become common challenges, yoga reminds us of the importance of balance, inner peace, self-discipline, and compassion. He remarked that while yoga originated in India, it has also found deep resonance in Sri Lanka, where the countryโs rich spiritual and cultural heritage, shaped by centuries of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions, has long embraced the values of mindfulness, inner peace, moderation, and harmonious living.
The event was chaired by DISHA National President Mr. Kanakalal K.M., while the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Riyadh, Mr. Abu Mathen George, inaugurated the event. Engr. Ahmed Alsaadi, CEO of the Saudi Yoga Committee at the Ministry of Sport of Saudi Arabia, delivered the keynote address. The event was jointly sponsored by Alwafa Hypermarket and SHOLA Mall.
