The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh has launched a tree planting initiative in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. The initiative also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Green Initiative (SGI) under the Vision 2030 which targets planting 10 billion trees in the Kingdom.
The Riyadh Municipality had allocated five different parks for the Sri Lankan community to participate at this tree planting initiative introduced by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh in collaboration with the Riyadh Municipality.
The tree planting was held under the patronage of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad on different days at five different parks namely Salam Park on November 23, 2024, Ar Rabi Park on December 7, Malqa Park on December 14, Al Darseena Park on December 21, and Irqah Park on December 30, 2024 respectively. The events were graced by Dr. Arif Al Sulami, Director of the Department of Partnership with Residents at the Riyadh Municipality, Ms. Ghada binth Abdullah Al-Omran, Director of the Municipal Volunteer Department, and other high ranking officials from the Riyadh Municipality. The Staff of Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh together with their families, Sri Lankan community members, Sri Lankan delegates to UNCCD COP 16 hosted by Saudi Arabia as well as Sri Lankan international school children actively participated during the events.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka continues to engage in its tree planting initiative in other parts of the Kingdom as well to show solidarity and support to the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI).
