Attestation of Documents

Applications for attestation of documents can be submitted to the Embassy. However, if such documents have been issued by any authorities in Sri Lanka, these should be certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo with respective seals and signature(s).

Before submitting the request to the Embassy, any document issued by foreign countries should be countersigned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country or by the diplomatic representative of the country in which such document has been issued.

The Embassy only authenticates the seal and signature of the officer who had legalized such document and not the contents of the document. In the absence of such certification, the document would not be accepted for attestation.
